I have always been obsessed with photography. All through Jr. High and High School I had disposable cameras needing to get developed. I had no idea how to use a real DSLR camera or anything about photography, I just knew that preserving memories was really important to me. I didn’t dream of being a photographer, but that is because my dream was to be a hair stylist. After cosmetology college, and working at an amazing salon for a year in Colorado, my husband and I moved to Utah. It was harder to make a living doing hair in Utah, so I worked an office job until I had my first baby and did hair on the side out of my home.
As soon as my first baby boy started smiling around 3 months old, I knew I needed a better camera to capture it! We were adjusting to one income, and had a crazy amount of medical bills since our baby was born with small bowel atresia and needed surgery as a newborn plus a month stay in the NICU to recover. We scraped together $450 so I could buy a used Canon Rebel with a kit lens off KSL classifieds. I took so many photos of my baby and anything else I could! I had no clue what I was doing, but I taught myself with endless hours of trial and error, reading books, and searching the internet. Neighbors and friends started asking if I could photograph their kids and families. It was a hobby for about a year until my husband and I decided that since I was spending so much time on this “hobby” I should start charging. I slowly started getting better gear, eventually got my official LLC in 2013 and the rest is really just history.
I never intended to have a booming photography business, it just sort of happened! As I grew busier, I kept raising my prices so I wasn’t as overwhelmed squeezing people in. That is the entire story.
I feel so blessed to have this career in photography. Human connection is so important to me, and the fact that I get to capture it makes my heart happy. I love what I do. I feel lucky God gave me the talent and that I can use it to help so many people remember special moments in their lives forever.
I am blessed to have an amazing husband and three beautiful boys. They are my everything!
